Canada-India sign collaboration agreement to train large workforce in the water sector

Bangalore, India, February 27, 2014 – ReserWater Innovation Foundation (ReserWater),

 

The Association of Canadian Community Colleges (ACCC) and the Canada-India Water Training Consortium (CIWTC) have signed an Agreement of Cooperation aimed at facilitating workforce planning and capacity development of the water sector through skills development.

 

Earlier this week as part of activities during the State Visit by Canada’s Governor General, David Johnston; ACCC and India’s National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at developing projects and programs to promote needed skills development in India. Today’s agreement is the first project launched under this framework.

 

“I am excited by this opportunity to work with Indian partners to share knowledge and work collaboratively at helping Indian organizations to build capacity for water sector skills development.” said ACCC CEO and Chair of the World Federation of Colleges and Polytechnics, Denise Amyot.

 

This agreement will focus on the water sectors in India to build capacity in technical and vocational education and training. The four colleges of the Canada-India Water Training Consortium have extensive experience providing water sector skills to employers in Canada and abroad.

The Canada-India Water Training Consortium was created in 2012 and consists of Centennial College, Confederation College, Fleming College, Northern College, and the Ontario Clean Water Agency. The purpose of the consortium is to provide training and skills development for the purpose of growing the capacity of the water sector in India.
